First Light

Painting inspired by Driftless Area, Recent Work

Sunset over a calm lake with silhouetted trees and a soft pink and purple sky reflected in the water.

Early morning along the Mississippi, just north of Lansing, when the sun breaks through the haze and the river turns to silver. The world feels newly made, still uncertain of its shape. I wanted to hold that quiet instant before the day begins, when light itself seems to be taking its first breath.

All paintings are inspired by actual places in the landscape.
