Brownsville Daybreak

Painting inspired by Driftless Area, Recent Work

Brownsville Daybreak, oil painting by Iowa artist Fred Easker.

Trees reflected on the still river doubled the quiet of the scene. Driving the river near Brownsville just after dawn, the first light spilled across the water and touched the bluffs with pale gold. A soft haze hung in the valley, catching the light in layers. The air was cool and the colors subdued except where the sun lit the tender green of new leaves—everything carrying that unrepeatable freshness of morning.

All paintings are inspired by actual places in the landscape.
