Driftless Eventide

Painting inspired by Driftless Area, Recent Work

Sunset over grassy wetlands with distant hills and a colorful sky reflected in the water.

Time and again, driving back to Lansing along the east bank of the Mississippi, we watch the sun slip behind the bluffs, washing the wide valley of the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge in soft pinks and golds. Pools of still water hold the fleeting color as the islands darken and night draws near. It’s the kind of sight that makes you pull over and stand in quiet awe.

All paintings are inspired by actual places in the landscape.
