October’s Bright Edge

Painting inspired by Eastern Iowa, Recent Work

October's Bright Edge, oil painting by Iowa artist Fred Easker.

Mid-October along this ridge carries a clarity that leaves nothing hidden. The trees, each in its own stage of change, stand in sharp relief—some still holding the last green of summer, others turned to gold or copper, and a few already bare against the sky. The hill lifts them into the light, their shadows cast long and dark across the grass. The air is crisp, the colors precise, and the season feels poised on its bright edge before the slide into winter.

All paintings are inspired by actual places in the landscape.
