Teardrop Island

Painting inspired by Driftless Area, Recent Work

Teardrop Island, oil painting by Iowa artist Fred Easker.

This small island is always in view during my morning walks along the Mississippi, just north of Lansing. On this September morning, the air was soft and the trees were just beginning to shift into fall. Most of the foliage still held deep green, but a small cluster of leaves had begun to turn—catching the light and drawing my eye. I’m drawn to scenes like this—steady, quiet, and easily overlooked. A simple shape in the water, a soft reflection, and the faint suggestion of distant hills offer a moment that rewards stopping and looking closely.

All paintings are inspired by actual places in the landscape.
